Next weekend, thousands of nordic skiers from all corners of the globe will find their way to Northern Wisconsin for the annual American Birkebeiner ski race.  While it’s famously know for it’s draw of elite skiers, most people are surprised to find out it’s grown into so much more, offering four days of races, festivals, demos and expos, family fun programs, and more!  Did you know they even offer child care for participating parents where children can visit museums, partake in outdoor activities, and learn amazing things about the environment?!

Maybe you’ve always been interested in checking it out, but nervous you’re not the best skier out there or not interested in competing.  Don’t let that stop you!  You can participate in on-snow demos to familiarize yourself with all the new gear, swing by the expo to chat with industry professionals and racers about getting involved in the sport, and even give racing a try in a shortened 12k race geared for newbies and recreational skiers.  And with hundreds of volunteers and super friendly supporters along the way, you’ll find the help and encouragement to get to that finish line!

For our more experienced skiers heading back for another year of racing, remember to stock up on the race day essentials you can find right here at Shep’s!  With a full line of Swix tuning products and a certified ski technician working in our state of the art tune shop, we’re here to get your skis performing at their best.  And don’t forget we’re also a multi-line nordic ski shop able to outfit skiers of all abilities.  So whether it’s some temperature specific wax and a scraper or a new pair of racing skate skis, Shep’s is the place.  Be sure to stop in and chat with our friendly and knowledgable staff today, and be sure to check out our race day gear list below to help you prepare for race day!

Shep’s Annual Dungeon Sale 2014

You are expected in the Dungeon, October 22-26, 2014.  We’ll be waiting to help you find new or used ski and snowboard gear for your entire family, at prices so low it’s frightening!

Shep’s accepts used gear late summer through October 10th (leaving a little time before the sale so we can inspect, clean, tag and inventory all the gear — no small task) for consignment sale.  We help price it unless you know exactly what you want out of it, and keep only 10% consignment fee (when swaps keep 20%).  After your used items sell, you’ve got ‘Shep’s Bucks’ store credit to use toward the purchase of any of our products or services.

We set the used gear up alongside our own inventory of new gear (left over from last season) and make it easy by installing ski and snowboard bindings so you only have one price to consider.

Kids gear goes fast, so most years there is a line at the door before our Wednesday morning opening at 9:00am.  Have no fear, there is usually enough selection to satisfy shoppers all through the five-day event.  The basement is stocked with Alpine Ski, X-C Ski and Snowboard equipment.

You’ll want to shop upstairs too, where the latest 2014-15 gear is also on sale along with the season’s greatest fashions and accessories like helmets, goggles, wax, tuning supplies and more.  You can even combine the great used gear you find in the Dungeon with new equipment from upstairs at Shep’s low “package price.”  All clothing and accessories are at least 20% off during Dungeon Sale and we’ve got lots of other great specials going on.

To top it off we have crazy deals on shop work, like binding adjustments or re-mounts on dungeon gear for only $10, a full ski tune-up for only $34.99, and great prizes including a Free Granite Peak season pass which you can register for while you shop.

Once the Dungeon Sale is officially over, you are still free to shop the basement. (There’s just less to choose from!) Still not sure you want to own equipment and can’t find just want you want from our used inventory?  Talk to an associate about Leasing.

Oh yeah… don’t be alarmed when you leave the shop after the sale and run into a crowd on the sidewalk.  Shep’s is on the Paranormal Society’s Ghost Tour each year during Halloween Weekend.  Our spirits rarely makes an appearance during the event though, so you’re safe in the Dungeon.  Mwaa ha ha ha ha…

Dungeon Sale 2014 is October 22-26.  The sale is 9am-8pm Wed-Fri, 9am-5pm Saturday and 11am-5pm Sunday. Suck up your courage, dig up the family and check our our frighteningly fun sale.

Announcing BIG changes in our tune shop!

The tuning shop at Shep’s has always delivered outstanding quality and service when it comes to prepping your gear for the best possible performance on the hill.  This year, we’re making it even better.  LOADS better!

Every winter, we strive to bring you the best performing, hottest new skis, boards, and gear on the planet, and people are hitting the slopes now more than ever.  Our tuning wizard, Pete Kohlmoos, works his magic tuning, waxing, edging and repairing.  To meet our own increasing demands while staying true to our promise of providing our customers with the best possible service and quality, we’ve purchased four new pieces of tuning equipment from Wintersteiger.

Known for their legendary quality and results, Wintersteiger produces industry leading tuning equipment that can be found worldwide tuning skis for the highest caliber of skiers.  Shep’s expects nothing less for our customers. We want our racers on the best gear available, tuned to the highest standards.  We want the fastest possible turnaround time to get skiers of all levels back on the slopes, and we strive to deliver cutting edge services that simply can’t be found anywhere else in our area.  To do this, here’s what we updated:

Micro 71 Stone Grinder: An update to our existing machine, the Micro 71 is capable of tuning skis and snowboards of all widths with exceptional results. Need the bases on those powder skis fixed up? No problem! Board a bit rough after hours in the park? We’ll get it looking great!

Trim 71 Ceramic Disc Edger: With a specific machine for sharpening base and side edges of skis and boards, Shep’s is now able to bring you laser accurate performance.

Waxjet 93: Designed to deliver hot wax to skis and snowboards in a faster and more efficient manner, the Waxjet 93 provides a deeper penetrating wax to your equipment while using less materials.  This translates to a better performing product while leaving a smaller footprint on the environment.  It will also significantly speed up our tuning time, getting your equipment done and back to you in record time!

756bd8ead4c1aacd9294b6321e84f0e8Drivetronic: By far, this is the machine we are the most thrilled to introduce to our customers!  The Drivetronic is an alpine ski binding tester designed to do one thing: ensure each and every binding that leaves our shop is performing properly and in the safest manner possible.  We want you to be safe and have equipment that is performing at its best.  The Drivetronic, combined with our highly-trained ski technician, will allow us to do just that.
