Demo at Granite Peak is organized by Shepherd & Schaller Sporting Goods and runs from 10am-3pm.
Mark your calendars for both events; play at the hill then come to the shop! We’re dying for you to see the new stuff (because we think it looks great).
We hope you’ve been taking advantage of our ski demos in the winter, because it’s your chance to test out the latest and greatest performance skis before making the purchase. And now? Now you can do it in summer too! Our waterski and wakeboard demos are in & ready. It’s the perfect chance to test new gear for your outing on Wisconsin lakes Wausau, Dubay, Minocqua, Monona, Mendota, Winnebago or wherever you love the water.
For just $25 per day, you can ride the new goods. And if you make a purchase yet this summer, half of the money you spent on demos will be put toward your bill. Yes, we mean it!! Use your “refund” when you purchase your new skis or board, PFDs, ropes or even Sun Bum Sunscreen. You need them all for fun behind the boat. All you have to do is decide before Labor Day.
What are you waiting for? Grab some demo gear and get in the boat!
Visit us in the store for details. As usual, you must be 18+ to demo, or have your parent/guardian with you.

A trip to the mountains is every skiers dream. Snow, Terrain, Dining, Nightlife, Shopping… Of course that includes snowboarders, ski racers, cross country ski lovers, freestylers and carvers of all kinds. Sadly, for some of us the mountains are too far. The good news is, if you live in the midwest and are planning a trip to the region’s #1 ski area, Granite Peak Ski Area in Wisconsin, you can enjoy the full mountain-town experience with a trip to downtown Wausau and Shepherd & Schaller.
Wausau’s Ski Shop since 1949, Shep’s is known and respected by snow sports enthusiasts from throughout the midwest. A product selection that rivals resort shops in Colorado, Utah and Vermont, a Rental shop that features new gear every season, and a back-room maintenance shop that is staffed by full-time, year-round professionals who are respected by both customers and ski gear manufacturers make Shepherd & Schaller a destination for elite athletes and newbies alike. It’s 15,000 sq. ft. of ski lover’s shopping heaven. It’s the place where locals find unique gifts and surprises, love to hang out, share stories, meet ski friends. You’ll feel welcome and at home, even more than you might at elite mountain shops at much higher altitudes.
Can’t get to town? Shepherd & Schaller launched it’s web store in 2011, with live inventory that allows you to see the exact same product that is on the sales floor. Obviously a great way to shop from home, many use the site to revisit items seen in the store, while making gift wish lists for birthdays or Santa.
A few weeks back, Robb, BT, TonyZ, and I made our way over to Afton Alps in Minnesota for the dealer ski demo. Most of the big names were there with next year’s gear, and for five hours straight, we put dozens of skis through their paces to make sure the gear we offer you next year is the best possible skis on the market.
While we each walked away with a list of personal favorite skis on the day, all four of us agreed on two as clear standouts: for the second straight year, the Salomon Q98 was a clear winner. Smooth, stable, able to ski anything by any type of skier – this ski just rips. The other favorite? K2’s Rictor 90XTi. An unbelievably stable ski, we couldn’t make it loose it’s grip in even the hardest of turns. That said, it was super easy to make turn any radius turns we threw at it, while remaining smooth the entire time. It was hard not to smile riding this ski.
